Setter's Camp Dropouts too big for their britches? Go 1-2 on Halloween Eve.

Minneapolis - - The Setter's Camp Dropouts lose their first series of the year 1-2 to Volleyball Pun.  The loss gives the Dropout's a 10-5 record with 2 weeks left to go until the playoffs.

The Dropout's lost the first 2 games and managed to eek out a win in the 3rd game.  The match became chipper by the minute as these are two teams that don't really care for each other.  I caught up with Mitch Findley after the game who added, "They took us out of our game tonight, we'll be back though."

During the postgame news conference, Josh Ullom commented, "We are at a crossroads after this loss.  Do we use it, get better, and make a run at a championship?  Do we meander along and go out early in the playoffs?  Buckle up, it's gonna be a ride."

Injury Riddled Setter's Camp Dropouts Win Match 2*-1 Behind Strong Performance From Subs and Forfeit.

October 24, 2008

Minneapolis - - With nothing to lose and everything to prove, the Setter's Camp Dropouts posted a 2*-1 match win over All Over (who were all over everything but going to the correct gym).  The win gives the Dropouts a 9-3 record at the halfway point of the season.

This was the first game without superstar Megan Bergseth who is out with a bum knee after a collision with a car.  I caught up with Mitch before the game who added, "It has been tough to watch a great player go down on my favorite football team (Patriots) and now my favorite volleyball team, we'll be alright though.  Lot of pride on this team."

The game got started about a half hour late due to All Over going to the wrong gym.  The first game was awarded to the dropouts via forfeit.  Game 2 was a classic barn burner that the Dropouts came up on the short end 27-26.  After falling behind early in game 3 the Dropouts found their stride and blew the game wide open and won going away.  Even though for the second time in 4 weeks the game was stopped for a warning by the ref (mostly the other team).

After the game, Josh said, "It was a big win and a big step in piecing this team back together and getting ready for a playoff push."  The subs were great, the hustle was there and the Dropouts did what they do best - Battle.

The Setter's Camp Dropouts Continue to Roll, Whip Easy E's Big Gay Al's 3-0.

October 17, 2008

Minneapolis - - The Setter's Camp Dropouts battled stomachs full of chili and an outclassed team.  The outcome was a 3-0 beat down of Easy E's Big Gay Al's, improving to 7-2 on the season.

With no keys to get out of a locked car the Dropouts were able to relax at Megan's place before the game.  Chili and beer was on the menu, exponentially decreasing verticals with every bite and swig.  With an unholy mix sloshing around in the stomachs the caravan left for the Minneapolis Sports Center (duh duh duh, duh duh duh).

The Dropouts welcomed back Doug Wilson after a two week sabbatical.  The new venue "The Hardwood in the Hood," suited the Dropouts just fine as they dominated the contest from the opening serve to the final whistle.  It was a ho hum game that most were totally bored by half way through the first game.  After 3-0 was in the bag, Doug added, "Anyone who thought Joe was going to take my spot, look at me now, look at me now.  We are 3-0."

The game gave way to the post game ceremony honoring our number 1 fan, Joy.  She has been traded to Colorado for a fan to be named later.  We are going to miss her dedication to the team and her wildly erratic dart throwing (I love watching you bend over to pick those darts up).

Game Ball - Joy Sidel

Injuries:
Mitch Findley - Near Dart in Foot (probable)

Another Strong Performance by the Setter’s Camp Dropouts who taste both victory and cake in one night.

October 9, 2008

Golden Valley, Minn. - - The Setter's Camp Dropouts turned in another 2-1 performance against Kills With Kindness.  The night was filled with more surprises than a transvestite hooker.

The night began with a huddle in the parking lot.  As it turned out, Angela had locked her keys along with her shoes and socks in the car.  Fortunately Megan, who happens to own stock in some locksmith company, was able to provide a number.  Mitch added, "That was a real Muffin Muncher move."

So the Dropouts would have to go into battle short handed as Angela loitered in the parking lot waiting for the locksmith.  After receiving a stern warning about swearing in the church, it was game time.

The Dropouts were outmanned but certainly not outgunned.  Game one saw a gutty performance and a 26-24 overtime win.  Everyone played a little harder with threats of, "If you miss another pass we are going to give Angela your shoes."  Angela got unlocked just in time to jump in early in game 2.  Kills With Kindness was able to prevail in game 2 but at a price.  They lost 2 players to injury.  "Say it aint so" Joe Sauro added, "I aint going to feel bad, the guy landed on my ankle on our side."  Game 3 goes to the Dropouts in a very business like performance.  Abra exclaimed, "All Day Baby, All Day!"

After the game, as the other team licked their wounds and limped out of the gym, the Dropouts had their cake, and ate it too.

Setter’s Camp Dropouts sleigh giants in the cave. Start season 2-1.

Golden Valley, Minn.- - The Setter's Camp Droupouts got off to a fast start in their season opener, winning the first 2 games against the Rancho Carne Toro's.

After a climb up the bleachers and a near loss of a coat it was time to kick the season off.  The rules and regulation were read as the Setter's Camp Dropouts stared across the net at 9 people on the other team, all over 6 feet tall.  What the Dropouts lacked in height they were prepared to make up in guts.

The Dropouts came out swinging right out of the gate.  Led by a strong performance by Greg "Warm Delight" Dorazio who added, "It's great to be back indoors," the Toro's were shell shocked.  The significant height advantaged was neutralized by the fact that they were all very clumsy.  All except a couple girls on the team who went head hunting.  Say it aint so " Joe Sauro marveled, "That girl can expletive hit."

After a win in games one and two, game 3 ended up going to the bad guys.  Mitch Findley thought aloud, "That is how my aunt plays volleyball in the backyard at a graduation party," after a particularly sloppy play and no net call by the other team.

Not a bad start to the season.  Angela Pasyk said, "We owe all the credit to our setters and I want to give a shout out to Doug and Josh."
